SMART Board Summit for Math Educators

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

On July 28 TeqSmart will be conducting a full-day workshop where math educators can share ideas and best practices in SMART Board technology integration. The workshop will be held at the Gick Road Conference Center in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Participants will have a rare opportunity to collaborate with other math teachers in grades 7-12 to develop a regional math resource for SMART Boards. Whether you have been using a board for a few years and would like some new ideas, or you’re getting a board in the near future, this workshop will provide some great opportunities to expand your knowledge of using the SMART Board to engage students.

Contact Trish Grossman for more information and remember to bring an activity to share!

And the winners are…

Monday, April 27th, 2009

The Tequipment RockA huge thank you to everyone who entered! The guesses were all over the scale but, after two days of intense judging (OK, really just a little sunburn from reading entries while sitting around our picnic tables) we have found our winners.

The official weight of the rock is 5,600 lbs

#1: Ms. Rosa Perez-Garcia of Newport News Public Schools submitted on Wednesday @ 11:42PM: “Hello, I am going to guess the rock’s weight in kilograms. I would say it is 2427 kilograms or about 5339 pounds.”

#2: Ms. Sue Palmberg of E.O. Smith High School in Connecticut submitted Wednesday @ 8:13PM: “I think the rock weighs 5320 pounds.”

#3: Ms. JoAnne Disken of Nassau BOCES Model Schools submitted on Tuesday @ 5:47AM: “I guess 2.4 tons or 5291.1.”

Congratulations to our winners and one last shoutout to the TeqSmart rock!

The Teaching and Learning Celebration was Awesome

Monday, March 9th, 2009

We had a fantastic weekend at the Teaching and Learning Celebration this weekend. Expect pictures and video soon, but today we just want to go over some highlights.

(1) We got to catch up with a lot of TeqSmart friends from schools all over the area. The event was packed with people, and it was great to see a lot of the educators we work with.

(2) Thanks to everyone for coming to our presentations and helping us to create a space to share our collective experience and expertise. We packed the rooms for our demonstrations of SMART Boards, AirLiners, SMART Sync, Senteo, and other SMART products. On both days of the conference, we showed how to use these products with students of different ability levels in different subject areas, and we had an overwhelmingly positive response.

(3) The conference speakers and presenters were incredible. While, we did not get to see everyone because of our own responsibilities, we were blown away by a lot of what we saw, especially Temple Grandin and Sir Kenneth Robinson. If you ever get a chance to see these speakers in action, we highly recommend taking advantage of that opportunity.

(4) Again, the name lived up to the occasion. It was a celebration of teaching and learning, and it was wonderful to see educators meet and discuss tools and methods over a very productive couple of days.

Did you go to the Teaching and Learning Celebration? Did you miss it and you’d like to know more about what kind of information there was about SMART Boards and other SMART products? Let us know.

Free Lessons, Purim, and the Teaching & Learning Celebration

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Did you know members of our free Educator Resource Center have downloaded our files 87,162 times as of the writing of this post? If you said yes that’s totally weird that you know that.

Regardless, as new readers of the blog come here, we like to remind them of the free resources available in our Educator Resource Center. To anyone looking for free SMART Board lessons, please click here to begin exploring.

We mentioned the recent uploads for Women’s History Month last week. This week we’d like to point out that we have uploaded an interactive SMART Notebook lesson on the Jewish holiday of Purim. Please feel free to download.

A quick reminder as always, you will need to register for the website (which is free) before you can download lessons.

On a final note, for those of you in the greater New York area, we’d like to remind you that Channel Thirteen’s Teaching and Learning Celebration is this Friday and Saturday. If you’re attending, please come say hello. We’ll be demonstrating SMART Technologies at their booth as well as running information sessions.

SMART Boards and the Social Studies Curriculum

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

This subject-specific session will be held at the GMNY Social Studies Conference on Saturday, February 7. It will provide participants with examples of how using the SMART Board along with Notebook 10 can enhance social studies lessons. It will focus on visual enhancement of content, student interaction, and how these factors can be easily integrated with a teacher’s current social studies curriculum.

Check out our Facebook page for other TeqSmart events! You can also schedule your own subject-specific training!
