LAT Highlights
Random Word Chooser
The Random Word Chooser is a great classroom management tool. Drag the object onto your workspace and type in the names of your students. From the menu on the bottom, choose the number of students in your class. When the “Select” button is clicked, the object will randomly choose a student’s name from the list. If you choose to activate the “No Repeat” option, every student in the class will have to be chosen once before they are chosen again.
Pull Tabs
Creating pull tabs on your Notebook pages is a great way to add extra information to your lesson. The LAT has a few pull tabs that are pre-made, but will also return to their places when you are finished with them. Simply pull the Tab out of the Interactive and Multimedia section. Click on the text to enter your own information. Place the tab off the page where you would like it be. Click on the little push-pin. This will pin that spot as it’s “home.” When you are ready to use the tab, pull it out of the side of your page, discuss what is on it and then click on the arrow on the bottom of the tab to return it to it’s home.

I love the LAT! My students love when I use the random word generator since they know it is fair! I have typed my kids names into it then dragged it to my content in the gallery. I can then drag it to any notebook page and it us ready to go!

I could not find The Lesson Activity Toolkit (LAT) in the Smart Notebook Gallery. I did find the following under
Random: letter, number, text tool, vowel, image tool, consonant, and card generator. Please explain how to find this Word Chooser as indicated.

“Random Word Chooser is Found within Lesson Activity Toolkit 2.0 in the gallery. If you don’t have LAT 2.0, or if your LAT 2.0 has fewer than 164 “Interactive and Multimedia Objects” you will want to update.
Here’s how to check for updates:
1) Click on the Gallery expandable side-tab.
2) To the right of the “Type Search Terms Here” field, there is a a Magnifying Glass, and there is a “Wrench (with a yellow handle). Click on the Wrench with the Yellow Handle.
3) Choose from the menu “Check for Updates.”
4) Choose LAT.
5) On the left, check the box for “All categories”.
6) Follow the onscreen directions.
7) You won’t see the changes until you QUIT and RESTART Notebook.

Thank you! These are great tips. The teachers in my building and I are just learning about how to use Smartboards and Airliners and how to integrate them in the classrooms. Please keep tips like this coming! I’ve tried often to use some of the tools in the LAT, but can’t always figure them out. This is a GREAT resource!

I just checked my gallery – I updated my Lesson ACtivity Toolkit from 1.0 to 2.0 a few weeks ago. I only show 61 interactive activities for all categories. I went to the wrench as you suggested and followed all the other instructions and tried to update again for ALL categories. Nothing has changed.
What am I doing wrong?

I can’t find the LAT in my smart notebook software. It is on my computer at school, but for some reason on the notebook software I downloaded onto my computer it is not available so I cannot update it. Where can I get the LAT?
